Summer Tips

As summer temperatures soar in Calgary, it’s essential for those in the aviation sector to take extra precautions against the heat. Whether you’re working on the tarmac, in the hangars, or engaging in outdoor activities during breaks, remember to wear a hat to shield your face from the sun’s rays and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Sunglasses are also a must to protect your eyes from UV radiation. Additionally, taking breaks in shaded areas or indoors whenever possible can help reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Dehydration is a significant concern during hot weather, especially for those constantly on the move. Ensure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Signs of dehydration include dry mouth, dizziness, and fatigue. Be mindful of mood changes such as irritability or confusion, which can also indicate dehydration. If you notice any of these symptoms, take immediate action by drinking water and moving to a cooler environment. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the summer months while we have them!
